Shanghai Xintiandi was developed by Shui On Land during the re-development of the surrounding area. The Xintiandi redevelopment was designed by Benjamin T. Wood and Nikken Sekkei International. Old Shikumen houses were renovated and repurposed, now housing art galleries, cafes, and restaurants. Xintiandi is known for its active nightlife throughout the week (rather on the romantic side than on the “loud” side though).
Xintiandi is an excellent choice for expats who seek a) proximity to other expats, b) a clean yet lively environment, and c) are on a generous housing budget: Xintiandi boasts the highest real estate prices in all of China.
Available housing mostly consists of high-end apartments and service apartments in renown estates such as Casa Lakeville and Times Square Service Apartments on one hand, and lane houses in various conditions on the other hand.
